Vietnam’s Football Hero Park Hang-seo Arrives in Korea with National Team
On the 17th, Vietnam’s football hero, Coach Park Hang-seo, arrived in South Korea with the Vietnamese national football team.
Park and his team landed at Incheon International Airport to prepare for the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup (also known as the Southeast Asian Football Championship), which will take place starting December 8.
The Suzuki Cup is a tournament held every two years since 1996, featuring member nations of the ASEAN Football Federation. Vietnam won its first and only title in 2008 and has been striving for another championship ever since. Drawn into Group A alongside Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos, Vietnam has high hopes for this year’s competition.
To ensure optimal training conditions, Coach Park chose South Korea, and the Korean Football Association (KFA) has actively supported the decision.
“The KFA provided assistance so we could train in Korea,” said Coach Park. “Since I know many people here, it was easy to arrange practice matches. Every time I return to my homeland, I receive great interest and support.”
The Vietnamese national team will train at Paju National Football Center, the official training facility of the Korean national team. They are also scheduled to play friendly matches against K League clubs Incheon United, FC Seoul, and Seoul E-Land.
Vietnam has had a historic year, finishing runners-up in the AFC U-23 Championship and reaching the semifinals at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games—their best-ever performances in both tournaments. Fans are now eager to see if Park Hang-seo’s squad can achieve another milestone at the Suzuki Cup.
